The Burj Khalifa was originally named the Burj Dubai. Burj means Tower in Arabic and it was to be the Dubai Tower. However, due to economic reasons Dubai was in peril. Saved by the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Dubai’s economy was rising back to its glory. Therefore, instead of Burj Khalifa, the tower was named the Burj Khalifa in his honour.

Another landmark is the Dubai Frame. Ever felt that a picture made you look 2 sizes bigger? Well, this one is going to make you feel really small. With a height of 150 meters, anyone would agree that this is the biggest photo booth ever. Located in Zabeel Park Dubai, the Dubai frame holds the record of being the largest frame in the world.
This well thought of design was not meant to be an emblem itself but to Frame Dubai’s many emblems and the city itself. From one side, you can view the Landmarks of Dubai, whilst from the other you can see the older parts of the city. Picture perfect indeed!

Ever stayed inside a landmark? Well, the Burj Al Arab is one such building. Also known as “a landmark of architectural innovation”, it is a luxury hotel and also one of the tallest hotels in the world. Managed by the Jumeirah group and built on an artificial Island, the Burj Al Arab is built with a height of 210m and made to represent a ships sail. Who needs a Yacht when you can live in this spectacle at sea?

Dubai is also referred to as accommodating the “eighth wonder of the world”, a man-made island called the Palm Jumeirah, which sits across the Burj Al-Arab. It is a part of a series of larger developments known as the Palm Islands. Located on the coastal area of Jumeirah, this is where the Island receives it name. The Island was created with 7 million tons of rock and sand from the nearby Hajar mountains. There are a number of hotels and resorts on the Island. The Palm Jumeirah
The Palm Jumeriah is made up of artificial islands offshore Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The man-made island earned its name through its palm tree like resemblance. This is one of the most known places on the planet. Consisting of a large ‘trunk’ or ‘spine-like’ piece of land, out of which spawns’ branches of land giving it the palm effect. The ‘trunk’ connects to the mainland via a bridge. This was essential for development of the island. Development of the Palm Jumeirah began in 2006, with the first residents moving in as early as 2007. By the 21st century, the population of the Palm Jumeirah was at least 10 000 and is steadily increasing.
